In 2022 Sondos was selected by Netflix and Safe sets intimacy coordinators for a sponsored training on intimacy coordination. And now she is part of Safe sets company (South African company offering intimacy coordinators for film, television and theatre. Safe Sets Intimacy also have coordinators in the UK and Spain, and collaborators across Europe, America, Brazil, Canada, Australia and New Zealand)..And recently she was a speaker on a panel discussion about intimacy coordination titled “Every Body: Working with Intimacy Coordinators” in this year’s Berlinale talents events.
The intimacy coordinator is becoming an increasingly important profession because after the metoo movement a lot of industry professionals in every part of the world have taken different kinds of actions to create a safer environment for both the actors and the crew. And reports of violations in many films are now coming to the surface, many of those violations are still happening in many places in the world including the Arab world. And now any international production wishing to abide by international standards always make sure they hire the right people to create a safe environment and deal with any problems that might happen on set, and facilitate the work with the actors on any sensitive or intimate content. Sondos would like to advocate for this profession especially in the Arab region and offer sessions and workshops for young filmmakers about the topic, in hope that when they go out there in the world and create their own films they have the needed knowledge and awareness about the topic. This relatively new profession was created to have someone akin to the stunt coordinator, to be able to support the actors, choreograph and work with the director and the production team on the filming of scenes involving intimacy. Intimacy is any moment where the actor is involved in any level of physical/personal contact with another actor, the context could be sexual ( kissing, simulated sex, masturbation ..etc), sexual violence (rape, sexual assault ..etc) or non-sexual (touch from a mother to a child or nurse to a patient). Intimacy is also any moment where the actor is appearing nude or semi nude, or wearing any kind of revealing clothes that exposes their vulnerability, alone or in the presence of another actor. |
